Scholarship

The Committee is responsible for the administration of the Stella Scamman Scholarship Fund, the SRW Presidents' Scholarship Fund and the Essay Contest. Each is awarded annually.

The Stella Scamman Scholarship Fund was established in 2002 to support women in their pursuit of Republican ideals in leadership positions.


The SRW Presidents' Scholarship Fund was established in 2009.  The purpose of this fund is to aide and support young people in pursuit of their interest in  the ideals of the Republican Party and to promote their involvement in future leadership roles. The Essay Contest  is entering it's fourth year.  It is open to public, private or   home schooled high school students in grades 9-12 in the Seacoast area.  The purpose of the contest is to engage the youth in American civics and encourage future leaders.
The committee solicits proposals for applicants.
 The requirements are:
  • Be a member,  in good standing, of the Seacoast Republican Women
  • Be interested in increasing their knowledge of the political process of the Republican Party
  • Present a proposal for the grant which will include:
    • Description of the program applicant is interested in.
    • Location of the program.
    • Benefits they will receive from participating in the program.
    • Cost of the program.

 

The requirements are:
  • Applicant must have active interest in promoting the values of the Republican Party and increasing their knowledge of the Republican Party. 
  • Applicant must also show how they would achieve these goals.
  • What the applicant must present for consideration: 
    • Description of the program of interest.
    • What they hope to benefit from said program.
    • Location and cost of the program.
    • List of activities the applicant has participated in.
    • Letter of recommendation.
The Committee will:
  • Define theme
    • Set deadline for entry
    • Email press release to high schools
    • Deliver three sets of each essay to judges for review
    • Contact the three winners by mail
    • Thank other participants by mail
    • Invite first place winner to read essay at Spring Luncheon (if first place winner is unavailable, ask second place winner to read his/her essay).
    • Print certificates
    • Notify Treasurer of the names of winners 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place.
    • If winner(s) are unable to attend, mail certificates with check
    • Photo op at Luncheon with winners and presenter.

 

Once the Committee has received applications by a determined date, it will review them and recommend the top  candidates to a panel of judges chosen by the committee. The scholarship can be awarded to more than one application.
